Yesterday, we experienced the opposite extreme of the canyon rim- the canyon floor. We hiked what is called “The Narrows”. Most of the hike was over large round river rocks, strewn under a foot to several feet of water. None of us, except Huckleberry, had to go over our chestline in water. It was a slightly wearing hike, as the footing was always changing, slippery, and never secure. It was also cold, as we started early in the morning to avoid the crowds. I think the extra energy to keep warm consumed our breakfast too fast. Hungry, we hiked about 4 miles upstream, ate again, and then hiked back downstream. We didn’t realize that we only had to walk a half mile more to see the falls – oh well.
