For the fourth day in a row we are on the road again. Thursday we left Colorado after playing a family soccer game with Hewitt relatives. It was really nice getting to be able to see everyone again. We decided that we wanted to get a head start even though it was already eight in the evening. We didn’t end up stopping until around three in the morning. The next day we drove all day, but stopped a little earlier, around eleven. We are getting lots of practice in the “art” of being able to sleep anywhere as we have had to sleep at rest stops next to the freeway, 24 hour Walmarts, and so on.
Yesterday we didn’t have as long of a driving day, thankfully, as we stopped to go to Six Flags in Chicago. We didn’t realize that it was the first night of fright fest, hence the reason it was open until eleven. It was so disgusting, I won’t even attempt to describe it. It was really sad to see people rejoicing in such darkness and picking on the children and younger girls, scaring them and chasing them around the park. So we ended up just going from ride to ride as quickly as possible. Thankfully none of the rides that we went to involved any of the going ons of the rest of the park. We rode as many rides as we could with all the long lines, not getting to crash until one in the morning.
Currently we are hurrying to Grabill, Indiana to visit some friends from Medford. We aren’t going to stay here long as we get back on the road heading for New York tomorrow. I am so ready to get out of the city, even though we have only been staying in cities for just over a week. It seems like the air here is never fresh. It seems like it holds everything. Fast food smells follow you around all over the place.
…One interesting thing that I have noticed while we have been traveling around so late is that towns around here are still alive even after midnight. It is amazing how many people are still out waiting to get into restaurants, walking down the streets, etc.! Even in the small towns. I am used to Medford looking almost deserted!
