I suppose some of you are wondering what full-time “non-vacation” travel is like. It’s probably a lot like living “stayed put”: times of excitement, wonder, frustration, and not so much like home… gallons and gallons of gas.
The traveling is wonderful. I really, really like it. In some ways I live from trip to trip — looking forward to the next time we pull up the stakes and drive to the next spot. I enjoy the driving — with the exception of the rare times of traffic when I have to merge and car after car races into the spot I’m trying for. I enjoy the varied and changing scenery. I even enjoy gas stops — fueling the rig, washing the window, navigating through the pumps with the trailer.
Life’s not all a road trip though, as we’re trying to live a normal life at the same time. And normal life is a lot like home, except more cramped. I wake up early and start working after some Bible time. I work most days until 4:30, with the children schooling during that time as well. The evenings are varied – hiking or sight-seeing, catching up on things needing to be done, shopping, and the like. Honestly it’s a full life and like at home we have to work to make “down time” happen — or stay somewhere wet and less spectacular like we’re doing right now!
